Draw This in Your Style
No matter your experience level, artists should consider participating in a “Draw This in Your Style” challenge!

What is this challenge?

The draw this in your style challenge is pretty self explanatory from the title. Often times the challenge starts with an established artist coming up with some sort of character design. They challenge their followers to draw their character in their own style! This means no matter what medium the host of the challenge draws the original in, artists can draw in whatever medium feels most comfortable! From painting, to ink drawing, to did it’s art, entries are extremely diverse! Once a participant is done, they will post it on Instagram with whatever hashtag the host created in order for everyone to see the different entries all in one place. Sometimes the entries get featured on the artist’s Instagram story or in a Instagram post. A few artists even offer prizes for top designs, but most times it’s just a fun thing to try.

Why should artists participate?

There are a lot of benefits of participating in the challenge. One is that exposure. Sometimes the host will feature entry on their story or in a post and add the tag of the entrant. The hosts often have a lot of followers and it is possible to gain more followers from this. Even if it’s not featured, participants often look in the hashtag, so you can receive likes and follows from that as well! It’s a great way to be apart of the community and receive encouragement!

Another reason is practice! Personally, when I started experimenting with Procreate, I participated in the challenge in order to practice and learn the program! It gave me something to do if I didn’t have any original ideas to work on and it’s fun seeing everyone’s work!

How do can you participate?

  1. Search the hashtags “#drawthisinyourstyle” and/or “dtiys”
  2. Find a piece that you like! Make sure you find the original artist’s post and read the rules/deadlines.
  3. Create the piece in your style! Try your best, it doesn’t have to be perfect! People from all experience levels participate, so have fun!
  4. Post it on Instagram with the appropriate hashtags!
